OSA Applauds House Farm Bill Approval, Urges Farmers to Contact Legislators for Farm Bill Support
WORTHINGTON, Ohio – The Ohio Soybean Association (OSA) applauds today’s passage of the Agricultural Act of 2014 by the U.S. House of Representatives with a vote of 251 to 166. OSA and the American Soybean Association (ASA) are urging the Senate to take up and pass the bill as soon as possible. “We want to thank the House of Representatives for passing this vital piece of legislation on behalf of Ohio soybean farmers,” said Jerry Bambauer, OSA president and Auglaize County soybean farmer. “The farm bill creates certainty in the agricultural markets and it’s something we’ve been working toward for a long time. Unfortunately we’ve been without a farm bill for too long, which is why we now turn our full attention to the Senate and urge them to pass this bill without delay.” OSA and ASA are in full support of the bill, which provides for multiple soybean farmer priorities. The bill includes a flexible farm safety net that includes a choice between price-based and revenue-based risk management tools and maintains the decoupling of payments from current planted acreage under both programs. The bill also strengthens crop insurance, streamlines conservation programs and provides for investments in critical trade development, biodiesel and biobased products. It also contains support for beginning farmers and ranchers and acknowledges the important role of agricultural research. Voting Results of Ohio RepresentativesYES
