OSA Pleased with Bipartisan Agreement on USMCA

December 12, 2019

The Ohio Soybean Association expressed support today for the recent bipartisan agreement on the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). OSA and its national affiliate, the American Soybean Association, along with other agricultural groups have been advocating for this agreement to be ratified by year-end.

“This is really good news for Ohio soybean farmers and farmers across the country,” said Ryan Rhoades, OSA president and Marion County soybean farmer. “After the year we’ve had with weather issues and trade disputes, this brings a little certainty to our trade relationship with Mexico and Canada. We’re now asking our Congressional leaders to ratify this agreement swiftly.”

USMCA will sustain the growth that the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) began. Mexico is currently the second largest market for whole soybeans, meal and oil. Canada is the fourth largest market for soybean meal and seventh for soybean oil.
